Valabhīpur is a small town in Bhavnagar district, on the eastern side of the Saurashtra peninsula in Gujarat. The land here is flat and open, so the town itself defines the map: a dense centre of lanes and closely packed buildings, roads leading out in several directions, and a wide expanse of farmland beyond, crossed by seasonal watercourses.
Beneath the present town lies ancient Valabhi, capital of the Maitraka dynasty from roughly the fifth to the eighth century.
