Ancaster Map Poster
Ancaster is one of the oldest communities in Ontario, settled in the 1790s and part of the City of Hamilton since 2001. It sits on and below the Niagara Escarpment, west of downtown Hamilton. On the map the brow of the escarpment makes a clear dividing line, with streets on the upper plateau giving way to wooded slopes and ravines as the land drops toward the Dundas Valley.
The old village centre lies along Wilson Street, where early stone buildings still stand. Around it, later neighbourhoods spread in curving crescents and cul-de-sacs, and Highway 403 cuts across the eastern side. Creeks falling from the escarpment create a series of waterfalls, including Tiffany Falls and Sherman Falls, part of the reason Hamilton is called the waterfall capital of the world.

Wilson Street village
The historic main street, with some of the oldest buildings in the region, forms the centre of the community and the line the rest of the town grew around.
Ravines and falls
Wooded creek valleys cut through the area, with waterfalls such as Tiffany Falls and Sherman Falls. They break the streets into separate, clearly defined neighbourhoods.
