The national road
The main highway runs straight through Ambilobe and holds the town together. Most of the street network branches off it, so the road reads as a clear spine down the middle of the map.

Ambilobe Map Poster & Print
Ambilobe sits in the far north of Madagascar, in the Diana region, on the national road that links Antsiranana in the north with Ambanja and the Sambirano to the south. From above, the town shows as a loose grid of low blocks either side of that single highway. Side streets fade quickly into lanes, garden plots and open ground.
Around the town, the Mahavavy river plain spreads out flat and wide, and much of it has long been farmed. The river's meanders and the straight edges of cultivated fields make a quiet contrast on the page. The regular farm edges sit against the softer, branching lines of streams draining towards the coast west of town.
The name is well known to reptile keepers, because one of the most recognised colour forms of the panther chameleon comes from this area. An Ambilobe map poster keeps things simpler: the road that carries the town, the grid built along it and the river country beyond, drawn in clean black lines on white.

Mahavavy river plain
Past the edge of town, the Mahavavy and its tributaries wind across a broad lowland. Their curves stand out against the straighter lines of fields and farm tracks.
A compact centre
The centre is small and close-knit, and the blocks thin out quickly at the edges. The whole town fits easily on one sheet, with room left over for the countryside around it.
