Failaka Island Map Poster & Print
Failaka lies in the Persian Gulf, around 20 kilometres off the coast of Kuwait City, near the entrance to Kuwait Bay. The island is low and almost entirely flat, so the map depends on its outline. It is compact and elongated, with gently curving shores, a modest network of roads and open water all around.
People have lived on the island for a very long time. Archaeologists have found Bronze Age remains linked to the Dilmun culture, as well as a Hellenistic settlement the Greeks called Ikaros, founded in the period after Alexander the Great. More recently, Failaka's residents were displaced during the Iraqi occupation of 1990 to 1991, and parts of the island still bear the marks of that time.
A Failaka Island map poster sets this layered past against a very simple shape. The coastline, the thin roads across the interior and the wide surrounding sea give the print a calm, horizontal balance. It suits a long wall, or it can hang beside a map of Kuwait City, which lies across the water.

Ancient sites
Excavated Bronze Age and Hellenistic sites show that people have lived on this flat outline for thousands of years, which gives a simple map an unusually long human story.
Shallow surrounding sea
Failaka is ringed by shallow water and sandy shores, so its coastline is smooth and gently curved rather than rocky or deeply indented.

Kenapa Failaka Island
Peta yang bermakna
For Kuwaiti families, Failaka often holds personal memories, from homes and summers on the island before 1990 to the ferry trips taken since. For others it is a quiet emblem of the Gulf's long archaeological past, drawn in the simplest possible lines.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, so the poster can name a family or mark a year. Choose one of five styles, including Sand, which suits the island's desert tones. Download the HD files for $9, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
