Right-angled town grid
The old centre is laid out in regular blocks. That makes it one of the clearest shapes on the map, a small rectangle of streets set against irregular, open countryside.

Fouriesburg Map Poster & Print
Fouriesburg sits in the eastern Free State, a few kilometres from the border with Lesotho. From above, the town is a compact set of right-angled streets, with a larger residential area spread across the ground beside it. Beyond these blocks the map opens into farmland, hill ridges and dry watercourses. The mountains rising to the south and east give the whole area its shape.
The town was founded in the late nineteenth century on land linked to the Fourie family, which gave it its name. During the Anglo-Boer War it briefly served as a seat of the Orange Free State government. That episode is out of proportion to its size and is still the fact most often mentioned about it. The historic core stays small and easy to read on paper.
A Fouriesburg map poster shows how thinly a frontier town can be drawn: a few dozen blocks, a handful of roads heading out toward the border and the neighbouring towns, and a lot of open ground. In black and white, the empty space around the grid carries as much of the picture as the streets do.

Roads toward Lesotho
Routes run out of town toward the nearby border and toward other Free State towns. On a poster they read as long, thin lines through empty farmland.
Hills and ridges
The sandstone foothills around the town break up the land. Tracks and farm roads curve around the high ground instead of running straight across it.

Kenapa Fouriesburg
Peta yang bermakna
People who grew up in the eastern Free State, farmed near the border or passed through on the way into Lesotho often want a record of a place this small. A map poster holds it simply: the grid, the roads out and the wide country around them.
You can add a family name, a year or the coordinates to the title and subtitle. Then choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand works especially well for dry, open highveld landscapes like this one.
