Emerging street grid
Much of the district is set out in rectangular plots along straight residential streets. On the poster these form a fine, even pattern with a clear sense of order.

Godomè Map Poster & Print
Godomè lies in the commune of Abomey-Calavi in Benin's Atlantique department, right next to Cotonou. It has grown quickly as the country's largest city has spread outward, and from above most of its street pattern looks recent. Blocks of houses fill the flat ground in a loose grid, and a few main roads carry traffic toward the centre of Cotonou.
The landscape of this part of Benin is low and full of water. The Atlantic coast lies to the south, and the lagoons and Lake Nokoué shape the wider area around Cotonou and Abomey-Calavi. Godomè itself is mostly residential ground on this coastal plain, a place where much of the region's growth in recent decades has actually been built.
A Godomè map poster shows a district that is still being built. Some areas have tight rows of plots, others are more open where building has not yet filled in the gaps, and the main roads link it all to the city next door. For anyone who lives here, it is a picture of home as it stands now, before the next round of growth changes it.

Links to Cotonou
The main roads carry traffic east toward Cotonou. They appear as heavier lines crossing the finer local grid and tie the district to the larger city.
Low coastal plain
The land is flat and close to the sea and lagoons. A wider framing shows the district in the watery landscape that defines southern Benin.
