Gongyi Map Poster & Print

Gongyi lies in western Henan, between the provincial capital Zhengzhou and the ancient city of Luoyang. The Yellow River runs to the north, and the Yiluo River joins it nearby, so the map is shaped by broad valleys and the raised, eroded terraces of the loess country. The city's streets fill the valley floor in a largely regular grid.

Gongyi is known as the birthplace of the Tang poet Du Fu, and the area holds the tombs of the Northern Song emperors, whose burial grounds lie scattered across the surrounding fields. The Kang Family Manor, a large historic residence, is another well-known site. These places sit among villages and farmland outside the modern centre.

A Gongyi map poster combines a planned modern grid with river valleys and terraced uplands. In black and white the geometry of the city contrasts with the irregular landform around it, and the Yellow River to the north gives the composition a wide, steady edge.

01

Yiluo confluence

The Yiluo River flows through the district and meets the Yellow River to the north, a meeting of waters long associated with early Chinese civilisation.

02

Song imperial tombs

The tombs of the Northern Song emperors are spread across the countryside around the city, set among fields and villages rather than enclosed in a single site.

03

Valley grid

The modern city is laid out on a regular pattern of streets along the valley floor, bordered by the ridges and terraces of the loess landscape.
