The parkway ring
Dual-carriageway parkways built for the new town loop around the older centre and link the townships. On a map they read as smooth, deliberate curves set apart from the housing they serve.

Peterborough Map Poster & Print
From above, Peterborough splits into two layers. At the centre is a compact medieval core around the cathedral precinct, with the River Nene curving along its southern edge. Around it is a wide ring of planned townships from its designation as a new town in 1967. These are linked by long, fast parkways that loop through open landscaping rather than cutting across older streets.
The cathedral is the reference point. Its Norman nave and famous west front sit in a close of lawns and walls, and it holds the tomb of Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry VIII. Just beyond the precinct, the grid of the market square and shopping streets gives way quickly to rail sidings, because the East Coast Main Line runs right past the centre.
A Peterborough map poster shows that contrast clearly. Old lanes cluster tightly near the river, while the townships further out form separate pods of curving roads and cul-de-sacs. West of the city, Nene Park and Ferry Meadows spread out as lakes and meadows, and to the east the land flattens into Fenland, crossed by straight drains and field boundaries.

River Nene and Ferry Meadows
The Nene runs east through the city. Upstream to the west it widens into the lakes and water meadows of Nene Park, which leave a large, softly outlined gap in the street pattern.
Cathedral precinct
The cathedral close forms a quiet rectangle of open ground in the middle of the centre, framed by old gateways and set just north of the river crossing.

Kenapa Peterborough
Peta yang bermakna
People hang Peterborough on their walls because they grew up in one of its townships, commuted along the parkways or were married in sight of the cathedral. The map holds all of those places in one frame, from the old core to the edge of the Fens.
You can set the title, a subtitle such as a date, and the coordinates line, then choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The parkway curves look especially crisp in Blueprint, and Paper suits the cathedral quarter.
