Highland terrain
The home sits in hilly country, and the lanes around it follow ridges and slopes rather than straight lines, giving the map a gently irregular pattern.

Thomas Magena home Map Poster & Print
Thomas Magena home is a point marked on the map in Kisii County, in the highlands of western Kenya east of Lake Victoria. It is a home place rather than a town, and the map around it is a rural one. There is no centre or grid to speak of; the drawing is made of lanes, paths and the edges of settled ground spread over rolling hills.
The Kisii highlands are among the most densely farmed parts of rural Kenya, with small plots of tea, bananas and maize covering the slopes, and the county is known across the country for its soapstone carving. On a street map this density appears as a close web of minor roads and tracks that climb ridges and drop toward streams in the valleys.
A Thomas Magena home map poster is, in the end, a family piece. It fixes one household's place in the landscape: the route in from the nearest road, the neighbouring paths, the lie of the hills. Printed in black and white it gives a rural home the same careful treatment usually reserved for capital cities, which is part of its appeal.

Rural lanes and paths
Instead of streets, the poster is drawn from minor roads, farm tracks and footpaths linking homesteads across the countryside, the routes people actually walk and drive every day.
Near Kisii town
Kisii town, the county's main urban centre, lies a short distance to the north, and the larger roads leading toward it read as heavier lines where they cross the frame.
