Suensaari island
The historic centre sits on an island in the river mouth. Its compact grid, surrounded by water and linked by bridges, is the focal point of the whole map.

Tornio Map Poster
Tornio stands at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia, where the Tornio River meets the sea and forms the border between Finland and Sweden. The old town centre is on the island of Suensaari, joined to the mainland by bridges, and Haparanda lies directly opposite. The two towns have grown so close that they share a common centre across the national boundary.
The river mouth breaks into channels, islands and shallow bays, so the map is full of water shapes. South of the centre, the Röyttä area holds one of the world's largest stainless steel works, run by Outokumpu. Tornio's wooden church dates from the late seventeenth century. A golf course on the border lets players cross between two countries, and two time zones, during a single round.
A Tornio map poster makes the border visible in a way few places can. Streets on the Finnish and Swedish sides nearly run into each other, with only the river between them, and the coastline of the Bothnian Bay frames the lower part of the print. In Noir or Blueprint, the wide, braided water becomes the most striking part of the design.

Border with Haparanda
The Swedish town of Haparanda lies across the channel. On the poster the two street networks nearly touch, and the national border follows the water between them.
River delta
The Tornio River spreads into channels, islets and bays before it reaches the Gulf of Bothnia. This gives the edges of the map an intricate coastal texture.

Kenapa Tornio
Peta yang bermakna
People from Tornio and Haparanda often feel they belong to one place divided by a line, and this map shows exactly that. It also makes a fitting keepsake for anyone who worked at the steel plant, crossed the border daily or travelled north toward Lapland.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example by using both town names. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Order a printed poster from a partner in one of more than 30 countries, or download the $9 HD files and print locally.
