Works pond
The dammed pond, created for the eighteenth-century ironworks, is an open shape near the centre of the map. Streets follow its banks, and the dam marks the old industrial core.

Verkhniy Ufaley Map Poster & Print
Verkhniy Ufaley lies in the Middle Urals, in the north of Chelyabinsk Oblast near the border with Sverdlovsk Oblast. Like many towns in the region, it was founded around an ironworks in 1761, and the pond dammed to power the works still shapes the centre. On a map the water sits in the middle of the town, with streets gathered around its shores.
Industry has stayed central to the town's identity, and in the twentieth century it became known for nickel production. Railway lines and industrial zones take up large parts of the map, and their long straight lines contrast with the grid of low residential streets. Beyond the edges, forest and the low ridges of the Urals close in, broken only by roads and rail.
A Verkhniy Ufaley map poster brings out the logic of a classic Urals works town, where water, factory, housing and forest are arranged close together. The pond gives the composition a calm, open centre. The surrounding woodland leaves wide margins, so the town appears compact and self-contained on the page.

Rail and industry
Railway tracks and factory areas stretch across the town in long straight lines, a visual reminder of the metalworking industry that the town was built around.
Forest surroundings
Dense woodland surrounds the town on all sides. On the poster it appears as calm empty space, which makes the compact street grid stand out clearly.
