Ambāla Map Poster & Print
Ambāla is really two towns on a map. Ambala City, the older settlement, has a dense, irregular core of bazaars and lanes, while Ambala Cantonment, a few kilometres away, was laid out by the British in the nineteenth century with broad roads, wide spacing and large blocks. Main roads and railway lines connect the two across the flat plain of northern Haryana.
The city has long been a crossroads. Ambala Cantonment is an important railway junction on the routes between Delhi, Punjab and the hills, and the city hosts a major Indian Air Force station. Its location near the Punjab border and on the road north to Chandigarh and Shimla has given it a strategic role for well over a century.
An Ambāla map poster shows the contrast between the two halves clearly. The old city's tight, organic streets set against the cantonment's open grid make an unusual composition, and the rail lines sweeping across the plain add strong, long curves between them.

Old city lanes
Ambala City's historic core is a close network of narrow, winding bazaar streets, a dense patch on the map that shows how the town grew before planned development.
Railway junction
Several lines converge at Ambala Cantonment, and their tracks, yards and curves form one of the most striking linear features on the whole poster.
