Bāfq lies in Yazd Province in central Iran, on a dry plain edged by bare mountain ranges. On the map, the town is a compact cluster in a wide, empty landscape. The older quarters have narrow, irregular lanes, while newer areas show wider streets and a more regular layout.
Date palm groves and gardens surround the town, watered for centuries by qanats, the underground channels used across the Iranian plateau. From above, these green areas show up as dense patches right next to the streets, with plain desert beyond them.
