Domodossola Map Poster & Print
Domodossola is the main town of the Val d'Ossola in northern Piedmont, near the Swiss border. It sits on a wide stretch of flat valley floor beside the Toce river, with mountains rising steeply on both sides. On a map, the town fills the level ground, and contour-free white space marks the slopes above.
The town is an important rail junction. The Simplon line comes in from Switzerland through the Simplon Tunnel, and the narrow-gauge Centovalli railway winds east toward Locarno. The historic centre, with its arcaded Piazza del Mercato, is a compact knot of old streets near the station.
Above the town, the Sacro Monte Calvario, one of the Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy listed by UNESCO, sits on a hillside. A Domodossola map poster shows a mountain town defined by its river, rail lines and the steep valley walls around it.

Rail junction
The Simplon and Centovalli lines meet in Domodossola. Their tracks leave the station in different directions toward Switzerland, Milan and Locarno.
Historic centre
The old town around Piazza del Mercato has a tight, irregular street pattern that contrasts with the more open newer districts on the valley floor.
