Krämerbrücke
This medieval bridge across the Gera is lined with houses along its entire length, so on the map it appears as a built-up street spanning the river.

Erfurt Map Poster & Print
Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, has one of the best-preserved medieval centres in Germany, and its map shows a dense and irregular pattern of streets inside the line of a former city wall. The small Gera River divides into several arms as it passes through the old town, and many of the streets bend to follow its channels. Around the core, a ring of wider roads and later districts spreads out.
On the western side of the centre, the cathedral and the Severikirche stand side by side on the Domberg above the large open Domplatz, and behind them rises the Petersberg Citadel, a large baroque fortress. Martin Luther studied at Erfurt's university and entered the Augustinian monastery here in 1505.
An Erfurt map poster brings together these features: the branches of the Gera, the wide square beneath the cathedral hill, the angular bastions of the citadel and the Krämerbrücke, an inhabited medieval bridge lined with houses. It is a compact, finely detailed map that rewards close reading.

Domplatz and Petersberg
The large open square leads up to the cathedral hill, and behind it the star-shaped outline of the Petersberg citadel dominates the western edge of the old town.
Arms of the Gera
The river divides into several narrow channels through the centre, creating small islands and bending the streets around its curves.
