Jinan is known as the City of Springs, and its old centre is built around water that rises from underground. Baotu Spring, Black Tiger Spring and dozens of others feed Daming Lake and the moat that encircles the former walled city. The city lies between two landforms. To the south, Thousand Buddha Mountain and a range of low hills rise abruptly at the edge of the streets, their slopes covered in trees and temple paths. A large lake within the northern part of the old city, fed by springs and edged by pavilions and gardens. It forms the biggest open shape in the centre of the map.
Yellow River
