Kikuchi Map Poster & Print
Kikuchi is a city in the north of Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, on the plain of the Kikuchi River where it leaves the hills west of the Aso caldera. On a map the built-up area is fairly compact, with streets gathered along the river and the main roads. A patchwork of rice fields and small settlements spreads across the flat land around it.
The town is known for Kikuchi Onsen, a hot spring area close to the centre, and for Kikuchi Gorge upstream. The gorge is a forested valley of clear streams and small waterfalls that draws visitors in summer and autumn. In the medieval period the area was the base of the Kikuchi clan, a powerful warrior family whose name it still carries.
A Kikuchi map poster shows a classic Japanese regional town: a dense core of narrow streets, a river running through it, and fields filling almost every flat space around it. It suits people who know the area from the hot springs or a walk in the gorge, or from years of living in Kumamoto.

Onsen quarter
The hot spring area forms its own cluster of streets near the centre, a small but recognisable part of the town's layout.
Rice field patchwork
Around the town, the flat land is divided into small fields linked by narrow farm roads. This fine texture shows well at larger print sizes.
