Ridge-line town
The main streets follow the high ground, and houses step down the slopes on either side, giving the town a long, narrow footprint.

Lawngtlai Map Poster & Print
Lawngtlai is a district headquarters in the south of Mizoram, close to India's borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh. From above, the town follows the crest and flanks of a ridge, with roads zigzagging down slopes and lanes cut into the hillside. There is almost no flat ground, and the street network shows it at every turn.
The town is the headquarters of the Lai Autonomous District Council, one of the autonomous councils of southern Mizoram. Beyond the town, forested hills and deep valleys stretch in every direction, and the Kaladan river flows through the wider region. On a map, the few roads that leave Lawngtlai wind for long distances to cover short straight-line gaps.
A Lawngtlai map poster is dominated by curves. Switchbacks, ridge roads and footpaths turn the town into a looping, almost calligraphic pattern. In a restrained black-and-white style, it becomes an elegant study of how a hill settlement adapts to its terrain.

Switchback roads
Roads leaving Lawngtlai fold back on themselves repeatedly to climb and descend, creating the distinctive looping lines that define the map.
Forested valleys
Around the town, steep wooded valleys and streams separate the ridges, leaving large quiet areas that frame the built-up hilltop.
