Mach Map Poster & Print
Mach lies in Balochistan in Pakistan, in the Bolan Pass, the historic route between the plains of Sindh and the highlands around Quetta. From above, the town sits in a narrow valley between bare mountain ridges. The road and the railway run through the valley together, and the town's streets gather along them.
The railway through the Bolan Pass is a well-known feat of engineering, climbing through tunnels and bridges on its way to Quetta, and Mach is one of the towns along it. The surrounding area is also known for coal mining. The landscape is dry and rocky, and the ridges limit how far the town can spread.
A Mach map poster shows a town shaped almost entirely by its valley. The line of the railway, the road beside it and the streets squeezed between the slopes make a narrow, linear composition. It is a striking map of a place set on one of the region's oldest routes.

Mountain railway
The railway to Quetta runs through the valley past the town, drawing a steady line through the rocky landscape towards the higher passes.
Narrow valley
Bare ridges on both sides keep the town long and narrow, so the streets line up along the valley floor instead of spreading outward.
