Open street pattern
Wide lanes and compounds give the town a loose, low-density texture, very different from the tight grids of coastal or river cities.

Mao Map Poster & Print
Mao is the capital of the Kanem Province in western Chad, north-east of Lake Chad. From above, the town sits in a landscape of low dunes and dry valleys, where the edges of settlement are soft and open rather than hemmed in by rivers, coasts or hills.
The street pattern is loose and wide, with blocks of compounds and sandy lanes that thin out gradually into the surrounding terrain. Tracks and roads lead away across the plain toward neighbouring towns and villages, giving the map a sense of distance and space that is typical of the Sahel.
Mao is also the traditional seat of the Sultan of Kanem, linking the town to one of the oldest historical states in the region. A Mao map poster captures this setting in its simplest form: a town of open streets set against a wide, quiet landscape.

Dune landscape
The town lies among the dunes and hollows of Kanem. On the map the lack of hard edges lets the settlement fade gently into the surrounding land.
Roads across Kanem
A few main routes lead outward across the plain, connecting Mao with the wider region and forming strong lines in an otherwise quiet composition.

အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိသော မြေပုံ
A map of Mao is a personal and unusual piece: a portrait of a Sahel town that few people outside Chad will have seen drawn this way. For those with roots in Kanem, it becomes a calm, lasting reminder of home.
