Congo River bank
The river is the widest feature on the map. The city's port and quays run along its southern bank, and the shoreline sets the direction of the main streets nearby.

Matadi Map Poster & Print
Matadi is built on hard, broken ground. The city sits on the left bank of the Congo River where the river narrows and runs fast between rocky hills. From above, the streets do not settle into a grid. They bend and double back as they climb the slopes, and the densest blocks gather along the waterfront.
The name is usually translated from Kikongo as "stones", which fits the terrain well. Matadi is the main seaport of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ocean-going ships can reach it from the Atlantic, and just upstream the rapids stop navigation, so cargo is moved here onto the railway that runs inland toward Kinshasa.
A Matadi map poster traces that meeting of river, rock and transport. The wide dark band of the Congo sets the edge of the composition, the quays and rail yards line the bank, and the hillside streets spread out behind them in loose, curving lines.

Matadi Bridge
A long suspension bridge crosses the Congo downstream of the centre. On the poster it is a single fine line over open water, joining the two banks.
Hillside streets
Away from the river, roads wind up the slopes in irregular loops. The pattern shows how difficult the terrain is and how the city has spread across it.

အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိသော မြေပုံ
For anyone who has worked at the port, crossed the bridge or has family in Bas-Congo, this map shows a city defined by its river. It works well as a strong, graphic piece for a wall.
Add your own title and subtitle, a meaningful date or the exact coordinates, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir and Blueprint suit the drama of the river particularly well.
