Pinar del Río Map Poster & Print
Pinar del Río lies on the flat, fertile plain of western Cuba, where the island narrows toward Cabo de San Antonio. The terrain around it is gentle, so the city grew as a steady grid. Long straight streets run through the centre and meet the main road that has crossed the country since the early twentieth century.
The centre follows the usual Cuban pattern of colonnaded streets and regular blocks. Toward the edges, the grid loosens into residential districts and then gives way to farmland. A small river crosses the city, and the Sierra de los Órganos rises to the north. Beyond the frame of the map, that range holds the limestone mogotes of the Viñales valley.
The province is best known for tobacco, and the city has long been associated with cigar making. A Pinar del Río map poster keeps things simple: an even grid, a few long arterial roads and a clear sense of a town that serves a wide agricultural region.

Colonnaded centre
The historic streets form a compact grid of narrow blocks. On the ground they are known for columned façades, and from above they show a tidy, even rhythm.
Edge of the plain
Past the last blocks, the street pattern thins out into rural roads. This transition toward the tobacco fields gives the composition a soft outer border.
