Valley floor
Most streets are on the flat bottom of the valley in a fairly regular layout. The result is a long, narrow block of dense street pattern.

Pomasqui Map Poster & Print
Pomasqui is a parish in the Metropolitan District of Quito. It sits in a dry inter-Andean valley north of the capital, only a few kilometres south of the equator. It borders San Antonio de Pichincha, home of the Mitad del Mundo monument, so many visitors pass through on their way to the line.
The valley shapes the town from above. Streets fill the flat valley floor in a roughly regular pattern, and the development stops where the land rises into bare, eroded slopes. A main road links Pomasqui to Quito in the south and to the equator monument in the north.
A Pomasqui map poster shows a settlement confined by terrain: a dense strip on the valley floor, empty slopes on either side and one long road holding it together. The coordinates line on this map is almost exactly zero degrees latitude.

Dry hillsides
Steep, sparsely built slopes rise on either side. They leave open space on the map and show how strongly the Andes shape Quito's northern edge.
Near the equator
Pomasqui lies just south of the line at neighbouring Mitad del Mundo. Its coordinates start at almost exactly 0°, a small detail worth printing.
