Road-led growth
Much of the built-up area follows the main roads, so the settlement stretches along lines rather than clustering tightly, a shape that gives the poster a distinctive linear character.

Simpang Map Poster & Print
Simpang lies in Jambi province on the island of Sumatra, in the low, flat country east of the provincial capital. The name itself is a common Indonesian word for a junction or crossroads, and that idea suits the way many settlements here are organised: along roads that meet and branch, with houses and small lanes growing outward from those lines rather than from a single dense centre.
The wider landscape of eastern Jambi is shaped by rivers, wetlands and cultivated land, and from above it often reads as a patchwork of plots, tracks and watercourses. On a map, that produces a pattern quite different from a compact town grid: longer lines, irregular blocks and generous open areas between clusters of streets.
A Simpang map poster captures this looser structure in black and white. Roads become the main drawing, lanes branch from them like fine strokes, and water and fields are left as calm negative space. It is an understated image, but a very specific one, showing a place as it actually sits on the ground.

Branching lanes
Smaller lanes and tracks split off from the main routes at irregular intervals, creating a fine, branching texture between the larger lines on the map.
Lowland surroundings
The flat terrain of eastern Jambi, with its watercourses and cultivated plots, leaves wide open areas around the streets, giving the design plenty of breathing room.
