Trbovlje Map Poster & Print
Trbovlje occupies a tight side valley in Slovenia's Zasavje region, running north from the Sava River. The hills close in on both sides, so the town is long and thin. Its main streets follow the valley floor, and smaller streets climb the slopes wherever the gradient allows.
For generations this was coal country. Mining shaped the town's growth, its housing estates and its strong industrial and workers' culture. The old power station on the Sava has one of the tallest chimneys in Europe, at about 360 metres. Trbovlje is also known as the home town of the band Laibach.
A Trbovlje map poster shows how completely the terrain dictates the plan. Development runs in a single valley ribbon, with side streets branching off like ribs and dead-ending against the forest. It is an elegant, vertical composition that suits a portrait frame.

Hillside branches
Short streets climb the steep slopes on either side and end abruptly at the treeline, giving the map a distinctive fishbone structure.
Down to the Sava
At the southern end, the valley opens onto the Sava corridor and its riverside rail and road line, where the power station and its tall chimney stand.
