Al Qāmishlī Map Poster & Print
Al Qāmishlī lies in the far northeast of Syria, directly on the border with Turkey, facing the town of Nusaybin across the frontier. The border follows the line of the old Baghdad Railway, so on a map the city's northern edge is sharply defined by a straight rail corridor, with the urban grid spreading south from it into the flat farmland of the Jazira plain.
The town grew quickly in the 1920s under the French Mandate, planned around the railway station, and that origin still shows in the regular street pattern of the centre. The Jaghjagh River runs through the city from the north, adding a thin, winding line that interrupts the grid. Its population has long included Kurdish, Arab, Assyrian and Armenian communities.
An Al Qāmishlī map poster emphasises the contrast between planned geometry and the land around it: orderly blocks, a straight border line and a river that follows neither. Outside the built area, roads extend in long straight lines across open fields, giving the composition a clear edge and plenty of quiet space around the town.

Jaghjagh River
The Jaghjagh flows southward through the city, a narrow meandering line that crosses the regular grid and gives the centre a natural axis.
Mandate-era grid
The central districts follow a regular pattern of rectangular blocks laid out in the early twentieth century, clearly readable in fine black lines at every print size.
