Donauinsel Map Poster & Print
The Donauinsel is an artificial island in Vienna, built between 1972 and 1988 as part of the city's flood protection scheme. Engineers dug a parallel relief channel, the Neue Donau, and used the excavated material to build a long, narrow strip of land between it and the main river. On a map it appears as a straight green ribbon, about 21 kilometres long and rarely more than a couple of hundred metres wide.
Today the island is one of Vienna's main places for recreation, with paths for cycling, running and swimming along its whole length. Every summer it hosts the Donauinselfest, a free open-air music festival that draws very large crowds. Bridges cross it at regular intervals. At the Reichsbrücke, the U1 metro line has its own station on the island.
A Donauinsel map poster is an unusual take on Vienna. Instead of the Ring and the old town, it follows the parallel lines of the river, the bridges stepping across them, and the Donau City towers and residential grids pressing up on either bank. The result is long, linear and graphic, and it works in portrait or on a wide wall.

Bridges at intervals
Road, rail and metro bridges cross the island at a steady rhythm. Their straight lines cut across the ribbon of land like the rungs of a ladder.
Reichsbrücke crossing
At the Reichsbrücke, the U1 line crosses the river and stops on the island itself, linking the old city side with Donau City on the far bank.

किन Donauinsel
अर्थपूर्ण नक्सा
For many Viennese, the Donauinsel means summer: evening swims, long bike rides and festival weekends. For others it is where they trained for a race or walked the dog each morning. A map of it makes a more personal Vienna poster than the usual view of the historic centre.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a festival year, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download covers six sizes, including A3 and A2, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF without a watermark.
