Kekem lies in the West Region of Cameroon, near the boundary with the Littoral Region. It sits on the transition between the lower country toward the coast and the higher plateau of the Bamiléké lands. On a map the town is strung out along its main road, with side streets branching off into the hilly ground on either side.
The main route through Kekem connects the lowlands with Bafang and the plateau towns further inland, and much of the town's activity follows that line. Beyond the built-up area, the land is broken into hills and valleys. It is a farming landscape where smaller roads and paths curve with the terrain.
The region is agricultural, with coffee, plantain and food crops grown on the surrounding slopes. A Kekem map poster keeps things simple and accurate. It shows a road town on the edge of the highlands, with the landscape pressing in from both sides.
