Košice Map Poster & Print
Košice is Slovakia's second-largest city, and its historic core is easy to pick out from above. Hlavná, the main street, widens into a long lens-shaped square that runs north to south. The cathedral, the theatre and a row of burgher houses stand along its length. Around this spine, the lines of the old fortifications survive as an oval of streets that encloses the medieval town.
Outside that oval the map changes character. Nineteenth-century blocks give way to large socialist-era housing estates laid out in curving superblocks, especially to the west and south. The Hornád River runs along the eastern side of the city, and green hills close in from the north and west. Wide boulevards and rail lines cut across the valley floor.
A Košice map poster brings these layers together: the fine medieval grain, the ring of former walls and the broad modern districts. The Cathedral of St Elisabeth, often described as the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe, stands on the main square. In 2013 the city was a European Capital of Culture, and it used the title to repurpose industrial sites for the arts.

Oval of old walls
The medieval fortifications are gone, but the streets that replaced them trace a closed oval around the historic core. It forms a clear frame within the wider city plan.
Hornád valley
The Hornád River flows along the eastern edge of the city. Its meandering channel, railway corridor and floodplain give the map a strong natural boundary on one side.

किन Košice
अर्थपूर्ण नक्सा
Many people pass through Košice as students, as workers at its large employers or on a first trip to eastern Slovakia, and the city tends to stay with them. A map of the old town and its ring makes a quiet reminder of that time.
