Salgir River
The river runs through the city in a narrow corridor of parks and embankments. It gives the dense centre a soft green spine that shows up clearly in black and white.

Simferopol Map Poster & Print
Simferopol lies in the middle of the Crimean peninsula, away from the coast, in the gentle valley of the Salgir River. On a map the river is the organising line. It enters from the south-east, threads through the city in a narrow green corridor and leaves toward the northern steppe. Streets cluster on both banks, denser near the old centre and looser on the slopes that rise to either side.
The city was laid out in the late eighteenth century beside the older Tatar settlement of Ak-Mechet, and that double origin still shows. The historic centre has a fairly regular pattern of blocks, while older quarters follow more irregular lines. On the city's edge are the remains of Scythian Neapolis, a hilltop site from the last centuries before the common era.
Simferopol is also the starting point of one of the longest trolleybus routes anywhere. The line climbs over the mountains to Alushta and Yalta on the coast. That road leaves the map heading south, a reminder that the city works as a crossroads for the whole peninsula. A Simferopol map poster keeps the river, the ridges and the grid of the centre in clean, even line.

Neapolis site
The ruins of the Scythian capital occupy a rise at the edge of the modern city. They leave an open patch among the streets and mark one of the oldest places in the region.
Road to the coast
The route toward Alushta and Yalta leaves the city to the south. It carries a long intercity trolleybus line across the Crimean Mountains to the sea.

अर्थपूर्ण नक्सा
People hang Simferopol for the place where they studied, where they changed buses on the way to the coast, or where they grew up by the Salgir. The river and the regular centre make a composition that reads well even from across a room.
