Trzcianka lies in the north of Greater Poland, in the wooded country near the Noteć valley. On the map, the town is a tidy core of streets surrounded by very large blocks of forest, with water showing up here and there as lakes and small streams. A railway line cuts through it at an angle and forms a clear diagonal in an otherwise loose street pattern.
The centre follows the pattern of many small towns in western Poland: a market area with streets leading out from it, low-rise housing beyond, then fields and trees. There are no sprawling suburbs. The edge between town and forest is sharp and legible, and that makes the settlement look almost like an island in the surrounding green.
