Al Bahah sits in the Sarawat Mountains of southwestern Saudi Arabia at more than 2,000 metres. Its cooler climate makes it a popular summer destination. From above, the city is spread across ridges and valleys, with streets that curve to follow the terrain rather than a fixed grid. To the west, the land falls away sharply along the escarpment toward the Tihama coastal plain, one of the most dramatic changes of elevation in the Arabian Peninsula.
