Arivonimamo lies in the central highlands of Madagascar, in the Itasy region west of Antananarivo, on the main national road that crosses the plateau. From above, the town follows that road as a long band of streets, with smaller lanes reaching up the hillsides and down into the valleys on either side.
The landscape around it is typical of the Malagasy highlands. Rounded hills of red earth rise above valley floors that have been shaped into rice paddies.
