Avedøre lies on the southwestern edge of Copenhagen, in Hvidovre Municipality, and its map combines two very different areas. Inland is Avedøre Stationsby, a large planned housing development built in the 1970s and 1980s, with its long, continuous blocks arranged in a distinctive pattern. Avedøre Holme is home to Avedøre Power Station, a major combined heat and power plant, and wind turbines stand along its shoreline.
