Bad Langensalza lies in western Thuringia, on the edge of the fertile Thuringian Basin. Much of its medieval town wall still stands. From above, the old town appears as a tightly knit oval of lanes and courtyards inside that ring, and the small Salza stream runs through town toward the Unstrut.
