Bellingham lies on Bellingham Bay in the far north-west of Washington State, close to the Canadian border. Its map is full of natural shapes. The shoreline curves around the bay, Whatcom Creek runs through the centre from Lake Whatcom to the sea, and hills interrupt the street grid in several places.
