Binche is a small town in the Hainaut province of Wallonia, best known for its carnival. From above, its most striking feature is the ring of medieval ramparts that still encloses much of the historic centre. The ring is one of the most complete surviving town walls in Belgium, and along it the round towers show on the map as small bumps in the outline.
Inside the walls, the streets bend and narrow the way medieval streets do, all drawn towards the Grand-Place and its town hall.
