Cascina lies in the lower Arno valley, between Pisa and Florence, on land so flat that its roads can run straight for kilometres. The historic centre follows a clear rectangular plan, with a principal street crossing it lengthwise and lined by porticoes. Around this orderly core, later districts, industrial zones and scattered frazioni spread across the plain in a looser, more open pattern.
The Arno runs just to the north of the town, its wide bends and embankments forming the most expressive curve on the map.
