From above, Conception Bay South reads as a single long line. The town runs along the southern shore of Conception Bay on the Avalon Peninsula, and its streets hold close to the water, branching inland in short cul-de-sacs and lanes before the land rises into woods and ponds. The town was formed in the 1970s when a string of older shoreline communities were joined under one municipality, and the map still shows it.
