Corfu is the northernmost of the main Ionian Islands, lying just off the coasts of Albania and mainland Greece. Its outline is shaped like a sickle: wide and mountainous in the north, where Mount Pantokrator rises above the narrow strait facing Albania, then tapering south into a long, low tail of olive groves and villages.
