Ðà Lạt lies on the Lâm Viên plateau in Vietnam's Central Highlands, around 1,500 metres above sea level. The French developed it as a hill station in the early twentieth century, and the cool climate still defines the town. Instead of a grid, the map shows roads that follow the contours, looping around hills and valleys in soft, irregular curves.
At the centre lies Xuan Huong Lake, a crescent-shaped reservoir created in the colonial period, whose outline anchors any Ðà Lạt map poster.
