Dour Map Poster & Print
Dour is a municipality in the province of Hainaut in Wallonia, close to the border with France and west of Mons. It belongs to the Borinage, a district shaped by centuries of coal mining. On a map Dour is not a single tight town but a group of former villages joined by roads, with houses lining the routes between them and fields filling the gaps.
The mining era left its mark on the landscape in the form of spoil heaps, former colliery sites and rows of workers' houses. Today Dour is also widely known for the Dour Festival, a large music festival held each summer on grounds near the town that draws visitors from across Belgium and beyond. The contrast between industrial past and festival season is part of its identity.
A Dour map poster shows a settlement pattern typical of the Borinage: streets that link one centre to the next, ribbons of housing along the roads, and patches of open land in between. The result is an irregular, branching composition rather than a neat grid, and it rewards those who know how the different parts of the municipality fit together.

Mining landscape
Traces of coal mining remain in the shape of the land, from former colliery sites to spoil heaps, adding irregular shapes to the edges of the built-up area.
Border country
To the south the municipality reaches the French border, and the map shows fields and wooded areas stretching toward the neighbouring French communes beyond it.

For people from the Borinage, Dour is a place of family, work and memory. For others it is the town of a first festival summer. Either way, a map of its streets makes a meaningful and understated piece for the wall.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates of your choice, such as a festival year, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Six print sizes are included in the $9 download.
