Eğirdir lies on the southern shore of Lake Eğirdir, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Turkey, in the Isparta province of the Lakes Region. Its shape is unusually clear on a map. The old town sits on a narrow peninsula that points north into the lake, and a causeway continues from its tip to two small islands, Can Ada and the larger Yeşilada.
Behind the peninsula, the town rises in a strip between the water and steep mountains. The streets have to follow the slopes and the shoreline instead of spreading freely. The peninsula has the remains of a castle and the older quarter, while newer neighbourhoods run along the lake edge. The surrounding area is known for apple orchards, whose plots cover much of the land beyond the town.
