Gadwāl is the headquarters of Jogulamba Gadwal district in southern Telangana. It lies in the doab, the stretch of land between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, where flat farmland reaches in every direction and roads lead to villages across the plain.
At the centre stands the Gadwal fort, the seat of the former local rulers. On the map it is a compact enclosure that the older streets wrap around.
