Ganta is in Nimba County, in northern Liberia, a short distance from the border with Guinea. Its layout comes from its position on the main roads. The highway from Monrovia arrives here and splits, with one branch heading to the border crossing and others leading to other parts of Nimba. The town is an important trading centre for the region, and goods from across the border pass through its markets. Ganta is also known for its long-standing Methodist mission, which has run a hospital and schools here for about a century.
