Ha Tsuen lies in the Yuen Long district of Hong Kong's north-western New Territories, on low ground near the shore of Deep Bay, across the water from Shenzhen. It is one of the older rural areas of the territory. Its villages have long been associated with the Tang clan, one of the leading lineages of the New Territories.
The map here looks nothing like Hong Kong's dense towers. Small village clusters with narrow lanes sit among fishponds, farmland and open storage yards, many of which serve the region's port and logistics industries.
