Haiger lies in the Lahn-Dill district in the far northwest of Hesse, close to the borders with North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. The town sits in the valley of the river Dill, and its map follows the valley: a compact centre on the lower ground, with newer districts spreading up side valleys and onto the lower slopes of the surrounding hills.
Three routes share the landscape here: the Dill itself, the railway between Siegen and Giessen, and the A45 motorway, which passes just west of the town on its way between the Ruhr and the Frankfurt area.
