High Blantyre is the upper part of Blantyre, in South Lanarkshire, on rising ground south of the River Clyde and south-east of Glasgow. The area's history is tied to coal. In October 1877, an explosion at the Dixon's pits near High Blantyre killed more than 200 miners, the worst mining disaster in Scottish history.
