Kitakami River
One of the longest rivers in the Tohoku region runs through the city, its wide curves and floodplain shaping where the streets and farmland sit.

Ichinoseki Map Poster & Print
Ichinoseki lies at the southern edge of Iwate Prefecture, where the broad Kitakami River runs south through a valley framed by low, forested hills. From above, the river is the organising line. The compact centre sits close to the water and the railway, and farmland and villages spread across the flatter ground, while the municipal territory stretches far into the surrounding uplands.
The city is known for two gorges. Genbikei, to the west, is a short stretch of carved rock and rushing water, while Geibikei, to the east, is a quieter canyon explored by flat-bottomed boat. Ichinoseki is also the gateway to Hiraizumi, the historic temple town just to the north, and a stop on the Tohoku Shinkansen line.
An Ichinoseki map poster shows how a northern Japanese city is laid out between river, rail and hills. The Kitakami curves through the frame, the tracks cut a clean line along the valley, and the streets thin out quickly into fields and wooded slopes. It is a calm, balanced composition, with plenty of open space around a modest urban core.

Two gorges
Genbikei and Geibikei lie on opposite sides of the city, narrow valleys where the map's contour of water tightens between steep ground.
Rail corridor
The Shinkansen and conventional lines run through the valley alongside the river, a straight line that cuts across the softer pattern of streets and fields.
