Koganei lies in the Tama area of western Tokyo, on the JR Chuo Line between Mitaka and Kokubunji. From above, it is a fine-grained residential city, with narrow streets and small plots packed tightly between larger green spaces. The broad outline of Koganei Park fills much of the north.
